Therapy

It is a pleasure to announce that if you live in the state of California, I am now available to book for therapy appointments via telehealth through Wellspring under the supervision of Dr. Matthew Metzger, PhD (PSY25425).

The therapeutic relationship is a powerful place for significant growth, change & meaning. My aim as a psychotherapist is to offer you a space where you can freely express and feel, while moving towards a deeper engagement with your inner and outer worlds. Clients come to me to work on concerns such as depression and anxiety, grief, trauma and PTSD, mood and personality disorders, sexuality, spirituality, and relationships. As your therapist, I will meet you with curiosity and compassion, we will slow down together and explore your depths to bring to consciousness the things that may be obstructing your path forward.

My approach is collaborative and relational, and varies based on your specific needs and pace. My therapeutic background is grounded in a depth perspective, emphasizing psychodynamic, relational, somatic, existential, and Jungian theories, while bringing in mindfulness, IFS, cognitive, and mind-body practices when appropriate. As a depth-oriented therapist, I orient to the unconscious, those aspects of experience and suffering that are not always known to conscious awareness. Together we may explore the unconscious through dreams, fantasies, body sensations, thoughts and feelings.  I draw from psychodynamic approaches, which emphasize how past experiences and relationships shape our present reality.  I value the importance of relating to the patient as a whole person, appreciating the complexity of the mind and the multiplicity of the psyche.

I view the client-therapist relationship as sacred, requiring compatibility and trust, and it is deeply important to me that you feel respected and cared for throughout this challenging work. If you are seeking therapy, I'd love to learn more about you and see how I can best support you. I'm deeply committed to this work and I look forward to meeting you.

My Approach

Drawing from a rich tapestry of therapeutic theories and practices, my approach embraces a holistic perspective aimed at facilitating profound healing and growth. My work emphasizes psychodynamic, relational, somatic, existential, and Jungian theories, allowing for a comprehensive exploration of the mind, body, and soul.

Depth Psychology

At the core of my therapeutic framework lies a depth perspective. Depth psychology is a branch of psychology that focuses on the unconscious mind, and it encompasses theories and practices of psychoanalysis, Jungian psychology, and certain types of existential and humanistic psychologies. (See here for more on depth psychology.)

From a depth-psychological perspective, therapy is seen as a process of exploring the unconscious components of the psyche that are influencing thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, often in ways that we are not consciously aware of. This exploration can involve delving into dreams, fantasies, and personal narratives, as well as examining patterns in a person's relationships and life experiences. By uncovering the roots of emotional patterns and uncovering unconscious dynamics, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and our relationships. Depth psychological therapy is typically a long-term process, as the work of exploring and integrating unconscious material can be complex and time-consuming. The aim of this work is not just symptom relief, but a profound transformation of the self, leading to greater self-awareness, personal growth, and psychological integration.

Somatics

Recognizing the intricate connection between the mind and body, I also incorporate somatic and mind-body approaches. Through somatic awareness, we can tap into the body's innate wisdom and unlock deep-seated emotional patterns. (See here for more info on Somatics)

Internal Family Systems

To complement our exploration, I draw upon Internal Family Systems (IFS). IFS allows us to uncover and heal the fragmented parts of ourselves, fostering internal harmony and self-compassion. (See here for more on IFS.)

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is one powerful tool that I integrate into my therapy practice. By cultivating present-moment awareness and non-judgmental acceptance, we can develop a greater capacity to navigate life's challenges and cultivate inner peace. Mindfulness practices provide a foundation for self-compassion and self-awareness, enabling us to respond to life's difficulties with resilience and clarity.

Cognitive Approach

By identifying and transforming limiting beliefs and thought patterns, cognitive techniques empower us to reframe our perspectives and embrace more empowering narratives.
